About GoatAtlas

What is GoatAtlas?

GoatAtlas is a directory of local businesses, each checked by a real person, built from the ground up for AI search. More people now ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and other AI assistants for a business they can trust, and those tools need clear, accurate details to recommend you. We help them find you.

Every listing is checked by a real person and published in the formats AI assistants read most easily: structured business data, a guide to the directory written for AI tools, and a clean, simple page for each business. We keep that work up to date as AI search changes, so you don't have to.

The same work helps your regular search engine presence too. Your listing is its own page that Google and Bing can find and show in results, with your name, address, phone, and hours set out the way search engines prefer, plus a link back to your website. It adds to what you already do for SEO without replacing it.

How is GoatAtlas different from review sites?

There are no public ratings, no reviews, and no paid rankings. Every business gets clean, accurate details, and no one can pay to rank above another. We also constantly monitor how AI assistants and search engines find, read, and recommend businesses, and refine GoatAtlas as they change, so the businesses listed here stay ahead without having to keep track of it themselves.

Why are the listing pages so simple?

Because they are designed for AI assistants first and for people second. AI assistants and search engines read a page's structure and business data, not its design, so each listing page puts clean, well-organized details up front: what the business does, where it is, the areas it serves, its hours, and how to reach it, along with the business data in the formats AI assistants read. Heavy styling, pop-ups, and extra scripts can make a page harder for them to read and slower to load. The pages are still easy for people to read on a phone or computer, and a business's own website remains the place to show off its brand.

Why does a real person check every listing?

Because we are only as good as our data. In more than 30 years in technology, our founder has seen again and again how bad data leads to bad results: garbage in, garbage out. GoatAtlas is starting fresh, and we are going to keep our data accurate as we grow. On many platforms anyone can set up a fake business. Here, a real person checks every listing before it goes live, monitors changes, and regularly re-evaluates listings. The more accurate our details are, the more credibility and authority GoatAtlas has with AI assistants, and the more likely they are to cite us, which works in favor of every business listed here. AI is great at many things, but it cannot supply experience and human judgment. We do.

What does it mean when a listing is reviewed by our team?

It means a real person on our team looked at the listing before it went live, and we review it periodically. We check that the business is real and that its contact details, website, and other information look accurate. A review is not an endorsement or a recommendation. We do not check or guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of a business's work, products, or services. Before you hire a business, confirm what matters to you, such as licenses, insurance, and pricing, with the business directly. See our Terms of Service.

Why is the number of listings limited?

AI search works best with a short list of trusted options. Each business type in each city is limited to between 5 and 25 listings, depending on the size of the city, so you are shortlisted, not buried in a crowd.

Do I need a website?

No. Your GoatAtlas listing page works on its own. If you do have a website, we can scan it to fill in your details for you.

What are the state, city, and category hub pages?

Hub pages organize GoatAtlas by place and business type: a state hub page for each state, a city hub page for each city in it, and a category hub page for each business type in that city, such as plumbers in Pasadena. The category hub page lists the businesses there, including yours. Customers, search engines, and AI assistants use them to find their way through the directory to trusted local options. We keep improving them over time so they work as hard as possible in AI search and regular search, which helps every business listed on them. That work happens in the background, and it is included in your listing.

Who is behind GoatAtlas?

GoatAtlas is built by Baby Goat. Our founder, Joanne Jennings, has spent more than 30 years in technology, marketing, and operations, and Baby Goat is dedicated to making the place where those three intersect work in favor of local businesses. About the founder

Your Listing

Can I change my details after my listing is live?

Yes. Edit your details, hours, address, and logo from your dashboard whenever you need to. Most changes, like your hours, phone, description, or logo, go live right away. A few are checked by our team first: a new business name, a move to an address farther away, new keywords, or a change of category or city. Your listing stays live while we check them, and the edit page tells you which of your changes need a review before you submit.

What are keywords for AI search?

Keywords are the words and short phrases customers use when they ask an AI assistant or search engine for a business like yours, such as "emergency plumber" or "gluten-free bakery." We add them to your listing's business data, the part AI assistants and search engines read, to show what you do and help match you to the right questions.

You can choose up to 12, each up to 5 words. We suggest some for you based on your description and services, so you can keep the ones that fit, remove the ones that do not, and add your own. Our team reviews every keyword before it is used, to keep listings accurate and fair.

A few tips for choosing them:

  • Think like a customer. Use the words people say out loud, like "water heater repair," rather than industry terms.
  • Be specific. "Wedding cakes" or "same-day AC repair" tells AI more than "cakes" or "HVAC."
  • Include the problems you solve, like "leaky faucet" or "lost car keys," not only the services you offer.
  • Only use what you really offer. Keywords that do not match your business can make AI less confident about recommending you.
  • Skip your business name and city. Your listing already includes them.
  • Revisit them now and then, especially when you add a new service.

I am not sure what keywords to select - can you help?

Yes. We suggest keywords for you, but the suggestions come from your listing's Description and Services, so complete both first. The more detail you give, the better the suggestions. You can also use Suggest Keywords to get a new set up to three times each month. Our team reviews every keyword before it is used.

How will I know if it is working?

Your dashboard shows visits, taps to call, website clicks, and where visitors came from, including AI assistants, and these figures are there whenever you sign in. We also periodically email you a short activity report.

Unlike visits and clicks, success in AI search is hard to measure. AI assistants often give their answers out loud or in a chat, and when a customer then calls you or walks in on their own, there is no click for anyone to count. That is why we encourage you to ask new customers how they found you.

It also takes time. AI assistants and search engines need time to find a new listing, read it, and come to trust it, so results usually build gradually over several months rather than showing up in the first few weeks. Don't panic if there's no immediate movement! That's completely normal, and your business is building its presence in the background the whole time.

How can I get the best results?

Keep your details the same everywhere. AI assistants and search engines compare what they find about you across the web, including your website, social media, review sites, and GoatAtlas. When your name, address, phone, hours, and services match everywhere, they trust the information more and are more confident recommending you. Details that do not match reduce that confidence and your business's authority, so update every place when something changes.

Do you keep my details up to date?

Yes. We check every listing periodically and keep your details in the formats AI assistants and search engines read as search changes. You only hear from us if something needs your attention.

Can I take my listing down for a while?

Yes. Make your listing inactive from your dashboard to hide it, and make it live again whenever you are ready. Billing continues while it is hidden; to stop billing, cancel the subscription.

Joining

How do I join?

Sign in with your email, then give us your website to scan or type your details in yourself. Check everything, add your keywords, and submit. Your listing then goes to our team for review. Join GoatAtlas

How long does new listing approval take?

A real person reviews every new listing before it goes live, typically within 3 business days. Your listing start date and renewal date are set to the day it is approved, and your dashboard always shows where it stands.

What if my listing is not approved?

If we need more from you, we will send it back with a note saying what to fix, and resubmitting never charges you again. If we cannot list your business, we will email you the reason and stop the subscription so you are not charged.

What if my category and location are full?

You can join the waitlist. When a spot opens, we will email you and hold it for you for a short time.

What if I do not see a category for my business?

Contact support and tell us what your business does. If none of our categories fits, we can create a new one, and we will let you know when it is ready so you can finish signing up. Contact support

Can I list more than one location or category?

Yes. Add another listing from your dashboard, either a different business or a copy of one you already have in a related category or nearby location. Each one has its own price, and additional listings cost less.

Why would I want more than one listing for my business?

Each listing is for one city and one category, and that is what AI assistants and search engines go by when someone asks for a business in a particular place. Another listing can help you come up in more of the searches that matter to you. For example, a realtor who is well known in Denver may also want to come up when someone asks for a realtor in Boulder, so they add a Boulder listing. You can also add a listing in a related category, for the other kinds of work you do. Additional listings cost less than your first, and you can copy one you already have from your dashboard instead of starting over.

Can businesses outside the US join?

Not yet. For now, GoatAtlas is only open to businesses in the United States. We hope to welcome businesses in other countries in the future.

Pricing/Payments

How much does GoatAtlas cost?

One listing is $135 for 3 months, $450 for a year, and each additional listing on the same account costs less. There are no pay-per-lead fees. See pricing

How is GoatAtlas so affordable?

We keep GoatAtlas focused on what matters: clean, accurate listings that AI assistants and search engines can trust. Doing this on your own is expensive, because the tools, the expertise, and the constant upkeep add up fast. GoatAtlas serves many businesses at once, so every improvement we make to the platform reaches every listing. There are no sales teams, ad packages, or pay-to-rank upgrades to pay for. That is why our pricing is so fair. A lower price does not mean less care.

How do I change my plan?

Open the listing on your dashboard and go to its Subscription section. Under Plan Length, choose the plan you want and press Switch at Next Renewal. Nothing changes until your next renewal, when the new plan starts and is charged in full for its length. Until then you can keep your current plan with one click. If you would like the change sooner, contact support. Go to your dashboard

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel before your next auto-renewal from your dashboard at any time. Your listing stays live until the end of the billing cycle.

How do I update my card or find my invoices?

Use Manage Payments on your My Account page, or in any paid listing's Subscription section on your dashboard. My Account also has Payments by Year: what each listing paid in a year, with discounts and credit shown separately and a CSV download for your records. Payments go through Stripe's secure checkout, so your card details are never stored on GoatAtlas.

Do you have a referral program?

Yes. Once you have a live listing, share your referral code or link from My Account. When a business you refer signs up for a new listing, you get a $5 credit once the business you refer has been live and paid for 2 months, taken off your next bill. With more than one listing, you can choose which listing's bill it comes off on My Account. You earn a credit for each listing that qualifies. Credit is applied to live paid listings only. The business you refer gets $5 off the first payment. A listing can use one referral code, and it must be entered at checkout when the listing first signs up. It cannot be added afterward. Credit has no cash value and cannot be transferred. Get your referral code
